I love you….. my injury
During these 5 years of my intensive practice of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga ….just only you… my injury which stay with me….in every situation….everywhere….never leave me alone…be honest to me…encourage me…..remind me to aware during practice. Some time work together with me as my teacher, as my awareness, as my close friend….and best friend.
I first got this injury after practiced ashtanga almost 4 years. During my practice in Mysore, India, that time I was very crazy about vinyasa, jumping backward and forward. Too much practice of vinyasa….. finally I got the injury on my right shoulder blade. I had to stop jumping backward and forward during my practice and that moment I thought it so terrible to do AVY without jumping and didn’t like to practice AVY anymore. My teacher said I need to continue my practice without jump and have to keep practicing likes this for a while. It’s almost two months without jumping, almost two months with terrible feeling, almost two months with a lot of ego. Ego…..a big ego and because of this ego made me felt very terrible to practice without jumping. Finally, I stopped practicing AVY and tried the other style of yoga which can improve the strength and flexibility of muscle in all part of the body especially for shoulders, quadriceps, hamstrings, calf, hip and the balance of body. And do the yoga therapy in the mean time.

After my shoulder blade was getting better, I tried AVY again and every time when I work too much on inversion asana…it come again….and have to stop again….it’s like a circle and I felt so terrible with this situation. After felt upset for a while then getting realize that this injury might stay with me for long time and it will show up whenever I do something wrong or too much working on inversion asana including jumping backward and forward.
Almost 5 years which we stay together, work together, practice together and I slowly realize that I had learnt a lot from this injury. Many senior teachers always said “practice with awareness, listen to your body, respect to your body”, from this injury I though I know the meaning of these words very well. I use this injury as my practice inspector. It’s always show me some significant when I worked too much on some asanas and reminded me to come back to my Ujjayi breathing and more aware about whatever I was doing. I don’t think that I can improve my inner practice without this injury. Now I feel more calm down, more focus on my Ujjayi breathing and from this Ujjayi breathing I feel more about bandhas. Every time, during my practice I felt more of inner practice…breathing, bandhas, dhristi and awareness….all is comes together……so I really love you…..my injury.
